The 2024 Electrotechnology course is wrapping up and the Middy’s High Achievers Awards have been issued. This board was donated and installed by Middendorp Electrical Wholesalers who are committed to supporting Padua College and the electrical industry. They also present the recipients with a Middy’s show bag which includes tee shirts, drink bottles, hats and other promotional material. At the end of each term a high achiever has been awarded for each group. The High Achievers Board has been used to reward students who show an aptitude to the electrical trade, a willingness to work collaboratively and cooperatively within the classroom / workshop. This year the recipients were:
Term 1 2024 Liam Chalmers Rex Wheeler
Term 2 2024 Ellegra Wood Matt Hayes
Term 3 2024 Cody Judkins Zach de Blaquiere
Term 4 2024 Jia Ewer Lachlan Salter
The 2024 Electrotechnology Pre Apprentice of the Year was split between two worthy students. Jake Horseman and Lucas Parrish won the award and were presented with a Cat III Multimeter with onboard LAN tester, this was sponsored by Jaycar Electronics Frankston. They also received a Bunnings Gift card, which was donated by Bunnings Mornington. Jake who is in year 11 will continue his studies in year 12 VCE and hopes to obtain a place in university and study engineering. Lucas has an apprenticeship lined up and will start in 2025. The VET team wish Lucas, Jake and all the Certificate II graduates the best of luck with their future endeavours, keep safe and have a merry Christmas.

On Friday 22 November, staff, students and parents of our graduating class of 2024 gathered for a wonderful evening at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre. Former student Oskar Proy entertained us with his music while Bridgid Cowling shared highlights of her career since graduating from Padua College in 1997.
We congratulate Candace Walker, winner of the 2024 Principal’s General Excellence Award, who was announced on this evening.
The Principal’s General Excellence Award is presented to a Year 12 student who has shown a commitment to their school life across several areas. Whilst it does not recognise a ‘champion’ in one or another field, it does represent a ‘best all-rounder’. Candance was commended on her exceptional dedication to academic studies, her inspiring personal growth and diverse talents, and her contribution to the Padua College community. We congratulate Candace Walker, a worthy recipient of the 2024 Principal’s General Excellence Award.
Congratulations to Tate Wakenshaw (Year 12 2024) on his Systems Engineering work being shortlisted for the VCAA Top Designs 2025. Congratulations also to his teacher, Paul Barton, on this great achievement.
The Padua College Twilight Market, held Tuesday 12 November, was an inspiring display of ingenuity and teamwork, thanks to the remarkable efforts of our Year 11 VCE VM students.
Guided by the ever-enthusiastic Mel Gilchrist and Kirsty Atkinson and supported by our dedicated Applied Learning Pathways staff, the students showcased a range of innovative business ventures that brought the spirit of creativity and enterprise to life.
The Twilight Markets buzzed with energy as visitors browsed a fantastic selection of handmade products, each thoughtfully crafted by the students themselves. From beautifully packaged Christmas gift items to unique homewares, the stalls were filled with items perfect for festive gifting. Visitors marvelled at the originality and quality of the products, while students proudly shared the stories behind their creations and the hard work that went into bringing them to market. This event not only celebrated the students’ entrepreneurial spirit but also highlighted the value of hands- on learning within the VCE VM program. Through this experience, students gained practical insights into business planning, customer service, and the joys of seeing their efforts appreciated by the community. The evening was a testament to the value of applied learning, as each student contributed to a real-world project that was met with great success.
A huge congratulations to our Year 11 VCE VM students for making the Twilight Markets an unforgettable night, and to Kirsty Atkinson, the Applied Learning Pathways staff, whose support and mentorship were invaluable. The success of the Twilight Markets reflects the collaborative spirit of Padua College, where learning extends beyond the classroom, and our students are encouraged to explore, create, and excel. Thanks to staff who ventured down to markets and browse the wares on display, as well as spending a few hard-earned dollars. I know that I was so impressed by the students that I bought a dog toy when I don’t even have a dog!! This supportive “spirit” further encourages the students that their efforts matter and does make a difference! I certainly recommend supporting future events.
